Sean Shanahan

I first met Sean when Hooked on Phonics was nothing more than an idea.

By a twist of fate, I found myself working alongside him to develop every product for his company, Gateway Educational Products.
It was one of the greatest strokes of luck in my career—to collaborate with someone so dynamic, driven, and true to his word.
Sean believed deeply in loyalty, integrity, and the power of a great idea.

This is the story of that journey—and of the remarkable man behind it.


The idea that made the man, HOP!

Sean never sat still. After the bankruptcy of Gateway, he threw himself into the syndication of Dr. Laura. When he sold that show, he didn’t slow down—he built the most magnificent steakhouse in Dublin.

Sean always talked about collecting rare documents—even JFK’s rocking chair. Many of those treasures now hang proudly on the walls of Shanahan’s on the Green.

I’m proud to have been part of his journey. Here’s the letter he sent me when the restaurant opened. He was so proud of that moment.
